Clive Street,
North Shields

This project involved an old building site that had been demolished and filled over to create a slope of about 15m high, at a 45º angle. A crack had began to appear and it looked as though the entire slope was going to slip.

We were asked to secure this slope. For this project we installed soil nails, drains and constructed a small retaining wall. Due to the size and slope on this site, it was impossible to complete using our standard 13 tonne excavator rigs.

We hired in 15m long-reach machines and fitted our 6m drill masts. We then built a platform of soil and stone to make it possible to reach the even higher heights. We worked the upper section from the top-down and the bottom section from the bottom up.

Technical Details:

  • Used 15m long reach machine with a 6m fixed drilling mast
  • Used mini-excavator with tirfors, connected to a 13 tonne, 360º excavator as a counterweight
  • Excavated, filled and installed drains on a 45º slope
  • Laid MatmacR to prevent soil erosion
