Trevor Foster Way, Bradford

This Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) Piling contract had the added complexity that old mine workings in an unstable condition were discovered during the course of the piling.

A revised sequence of work had to be adopted, and drilling and grouting plant and equipment quickly mobilised to site, to treat the workings and allow completion of the piling.

Fortunately we are experienced in drilling and grouting work of this nature having carried out many such contracts over the last 15 years and we maintain the necessary resources to undertake this type of work at short notice. This ensured that we were able to respond quickly and mitigate any delays to the overall construction programme.

Treatment of the workings was successfully carried out by drilling into the workings on a grid pattern and injecting PFA:Cement grout mixed on site by ourselves.

Summary:

  • Design and construction of 125No. 350mm and 450mm diameter Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) piles
  • Drilling and grouting of old mine workings encountered using PFA:Cement grout
