Pool Bank Wall, Leeds
This very demanding contract involved the construction of 56No. bored piles to stabilise a failing retaining wall immediately adjacent to an extremely busy road.
One lane of the road had to be kept open throughout the work which severely restricted the working area particularly at several pinch points.
The smallest piling rig available which was capable of boring the piles was chosen for the work to avoid completely blocking access up and down the site and to minimise the load imposed on the retaining wall which was in very poor condition.
The piles were up to 15 metres long with 375mm diameter rock sockets and full length permanent steel tubular reinforcement.
Working on such a restricted and potentially unstable site but still achieving safe and timely completion of the works was a challenge to all concerned.
